European Vacation - Day 5 & 6 Munich, Germany

Day 5, Aug 15
Jonathan and I started the day off early in Austria with another delicious breakfast at 0700. We were then packed and ready to go to the subway (aka tube) to make our 0836 train to Munich. Got there in good time and again enjoyed a relaxing, quiet ride on the train. This time there was great AC and wifi!
When we arrived in Munich around 1230 we weren't expecting a whole lot. The lady at hotel reception said it was a national holiday, and in not so many words, shouldn't expect anything open or worthwhile today other than the park. After a short rest and dropping off our luggage we started walking. Soon we saw some castle-looking buildings and knew we were going in the right direction.  And were we ever! The day ended up quite fun and even though most shops were closed for shopping (that we weren't interested in anyway), there was a tonne of action. Many people were wearing German attire and seemingly quite enjoying their day off. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the day.

Michael Jackson Memorial- didn't expect that.

Looks so much better than the picture.

History of Hofbrauhaus.

Lots of Germans in their fancy outfits today on their national holiday.

So many ways to travel in Europe: carriages, bikes, auto, street cars, bus, subway (tube), train, foot.

More ways to travel.

Just love this.

Cool bike carrier.

The tube to the train station. So efficient and easy. But remember to have cash to use the "toilet" (;

Austria to Germany - great scenery from the train with AC and wifi!

Train went to 220 km/h for a while!

Depositing valuables into the safe.

Creatif Elefant Hotel, 400 m from train.

Let's head that way.

The European way - enjoying delicious food with family and friends, in no hurry to rush away with paper or Styrofoam take-out containers. Slower pace to savour it all. You have to ask for, "cheque please".

I'm across the ocean and still go to bed looking forward to breakfast. Juices, breads ...
Love.

...muesli, baked goods, cereals, eggs, meats, cheese, spreads, tomatoes, cucumbers, yogurt, fruit. And of course, coffee. The food is delicious and fresh with minimal packaging and processing. Doesn't seem to be as much obesity but can't get over the smoking, by everyone, everywhere!

Gelato...oh sooo good.
Another exquisite breakfast experience.

This is starting to look normal for us.

Go, Alex! Relaxing back at the hotel, watching fellow Canadian athletes compete back in Russia.

$0.71 for use of water closet.

Breakfast at Creatif Elefant.

Morning café.

Bayern Munich team.

Chariot in Germany.

Enjoying the holiday.

Inside the Hofbrauhaus.

German men.

Dinner: sausage, sauerkraut, cooked red cabbage, bread, cold potato salad, beer, salad.
